Patricia Urquiola designer
Spanish architect and director, adopted Italian. Patricia Urquiola was born in Oviedo, Spain, but has lived and worked in Milan for over 20 years. She studied architecture at the Technical University of Madrid and the Polytechnic University of Milan, where she graduated in 1989 and Achille Castiglioni oversaw her graduate thesis. In the early years of her career, she was assistant lecturer to Achille Castiglioni, she collaborated with Vico Magistretti and was Head of Design at Lissoni Associati. She opened her own studio in 2001, working in product design, interior design and architecture. Her most recent projects have included: the Jewellery Museum in Vicenza, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Barcelona, Das Stue hotel in Berlin, the Spa at the Four Seasons Hotel in Milan; retail and fitting projects for Gianvito Rossi, BMW, Flos, Missoni, Moroso, Officine Panerai, H&M, Santoni and Pitti Uomo.
